Garbage DOs and DON'Ts
City - Thank you for visiting Garbage collection
Fire Prevention Month
October is National Fire Prevention Month! Don't forget to check your smoke detector batteries monthly and replace your smoke detectors every 10 years. Old photoelectric detectors can be put in the garbage as long as you remove the batteries first. Ionization detectors are safe to use but do contain a small amount of radioactive material sealed inside the device. These detectors should not be put in the garbage. They can be dropped off as household hazardous waste (HHW) at one of Spokane's disposal sites. The Waste to Energy Facility accepts HHW 7 days a week; the Valley and North County Transfer Stations accepts HHW on Saturdays and Sundays.
